What is the Industry Orientation Program

The Industry Orientation Program is a one-day class that provides employees new to the mechanical contracting industry with foundational knowledge about the profession. Taught by local professionals in the mechanical contracting industry, this seminar involves group discussion and small group interactions to teach you what it takes to thrive in this industry.

Program Goals
  • Help new employees identify their role in, and contribution to, your business.
  • Gain knowledge of the mechanical contractor’s business culture.
  • Connect with industry peers to build a professional network.
  • Educate, excite, and engage new employees about the MCAKC community.
Learning Objectives

After completing this program, you will be able to:

Section 1: Union Mechanical Contracting Industry
Explain the value of the local and national union mechanical contracting markets including history, trends, and structure.

Section 2: The Kansas City Mechanical Contracting Market
Summarize the history of the Union Mechanical Contracting Industry in Kansas City, its role in the local construction environment, and the vertical markets in which we work.

Section 2: Union vs. Non-Union
Outline the key differences between union and non-union contractors and summarize the benefits of union contractors.

Section 3: Union Mechanical Contractor Business
Navigate the mechanical contracting industry and describe general business, finance, and project strategies.

Section 5: The MCA of Kansas City: Utilizing our Services

Utilize the MCAKC to support career goals and leverage learning opportunities.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for those new to the mechanical contracting industry.  New employees (any position), students, recent graduates, and interns with less than six months of industry experience will benefit from this “Intro to Mechanical Contracting” program.
