SUMMARY:Understanding Mechanical Systems 101 - For Non-Technical Employees

Participants will learn how these critical building systems work together to provide a healthy\, comfortable\, and productive environment for occupants. Participants will gain valuable insights into how these systems integrate within building design and construction processes. \n \n\nThrough a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on activities\, attendees will explore various mechanical and plumbing systems\, equipment\, and common materials used in construction. The seminar emphasizes practical knowledge\, including plan and specification review\, equipment identification\, and the vital role of the commissioning process throughout construction projects for both system types.\n \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this seminar\, participants will be able to:\n \n\nDefine and use basic terminology for both HVAC and plumbing systems\nIdentify various HVAC equipment and systems\, explaining their primary functions\nDescribe fundamental methods for heating\, cooling\, and ventilating buildings\nRecognize and explain the basic components of air conditioning and water distribution systems\nInterpret HVAC plans and specifications used in construction projects\nUnderstand the importance of the commissioning process in mechanical system installation\nIdentify common piping materials and components used in both HVAC and plumbing systems \n\nCEUs: 0.4 \nTarget Audience: Administrative & Office Support\, Finance & Accounting\, Human Resources\, Project Support\, Sales & Marketing Staff\n \nCost: There is no charge for employees of MCAKC Member Contractors Signatory to Local 8 & 533. \n$200 for Non-Members Signatory to Local 8 & 533.\n$250 for Associate Members. \nInstructor \nBrad Perkins\, P.E.\, \n is a Senior Lecturer in Iowa State University’s Department of Civil\, Construction\, and Environmental Engineering. A graduate of Iowa State’s Construction Engineering program\, Brad joined the faculty in 2005 after working as a design engineer.
